Mahatma Gandhi, who is in Delhi, feels perturbed by the fact that the Poet should expose himself to the risk of such ardous tours at his age to collect funds for his institution. At Gandhi's instance, G. D. Birla, one of his followers, presents the Poet with a cheque for Rs. 60,000/- being the accumulated deficit of Visva-Bharati.

Public reception in Delhi

The Delhi Municipality votes a civic address to the Poet, which is however negatived by the Government. The citizens of Delhi hold a public reception at the Queen's Garden where an address is presented to him. Aruna Asaf Ali and Deshbandhu Gupta organised this reception.
